This magazine follows the codes and conventions of movie magazines, the masthead is the biggest text on the page. The text is in a big bold font in block capitals, the masthead will be in its own font and of its own design so that it is easily recognised when its on the shelves in a shop.
The main image uses the male gaze rule to attract the films target audience and increase magazine sales for that particular month. They use a medium shot in this photo, allowing you to see more of the person and show off the fact that there is this cool guy in a suit with weapons and cool glowing lights, this is done to attract the films target audience. The way that this image is taken, it makes it look like he is looking right at you, so when the reader picks up the magazine, they are immediately engaged by the magazine compelling them to read it. The way that they have contrasted the red and golds against the blue and black background gives the impression that iron man is a force of good in dark times as well as this it really makes the image stand out from the rest of the page.
The main cover line is placed over the main image which is fairly common in a magazine and helps the reader to easily identify the caption with the film, which makes the magazine more reader friendly, increasing the chance that you will read it. The gold text makes the text look more valuable and important, like it is secret information that will not be found in other magazines, saying to the reader that if you don't buy this magazine and read it you wont be privy to this information.
Like most magazines, the cover lines have been spread around the magazine, making the magazine look less cluttered, and filling in the empty spaces that are not covered by the main image. The cover lines have been put in a block capital bold font to make them stand out and make them look more important than other info on the page.
Unlike most magazines, this one does not have a selling line, which leaves the reader without that extra confidence and incentive to buy the magazine.
The cover line at the bottom of the page acts as a et more for your money kind of thing, where if you buy this magazine you'll be getting all of this great stuff attracting the reader to this because they will think that by buying this magazine they will be getting all of this content.
The cover line at the top of the page is in a gold text because it is being advertised as something special that will only be found in this magazine, the bold text is used to show the importance of this text and by doing that makes it more appealing to the reader.
The left third of this magazine contains the word TOTAL in block capitals and in bold, this unique style of text in the left third makes the magazine easily recognisable when stacked on the shelves in a shop,it also contains the only other image on the front cover with Ricky Gervais in it and with all the advertising that he has been in on TV recently makes his star appeal substantial and I you liked his new show you are more likely to buy this magazine. The cover lines that have been put in the left third are used to attract a wider audience, the marvel cover line will attract one type of audience and the sex and violence cover line will attract a different type of audience.
