Empire magazine


The Masthead uses the Empire text and font, so that as a reader you know that you're looking at a good magazine, it is also the biggest text on the page so that you are drawn to it in a shop, also the masthead needs to be in a big text because it needs to stand out from other magazines in the shop.

The selling line, helps the magazine to sound more professional and established, helping to improve circulation, and when looking at a magazine as a consumer seeing the words 'the worlds biggest movie magazine' installs a confidence in the reader that this magazine is going to be good.

The Main cover line is in the second biggest text on the page, so you will be drawn to this after reading the masthead, the main cover line has to engage the reader and make him want to read the magazine, they do this by making the reader feel like he will be missing out if the reader does not read this magazine, they will be missing out on something really special.

The main image uses a well known actor to add star appeal to the magazine, also a well known actor will attract a much greater audience, this magazine also takes advantage of the male gaze theory in order to attract a bigger audience. Also the main image is used to engage the reader

The cover lines are mainly situated down the left third, this helps it to stand out from other magazines when placed in the shops. It includes all the famous films that will attract a reader to the magazine.

The use of the stars links the cover lines to the main image helping the reader to easily navigate around the front cover. Certain phrases used in the cover lines such as 'you need to know' and 'preview special' are used to attract the consumer in a shop.

Certain cover lines are highlighted in a different colour text, this is done to make it seem more important to the reader and it attracts the audience to these cover lines specifically, this combined with the clever phrases gives the audience a better reading experience, giving the magazine a much greater audience.
