My media products use develop and challenge the codes and conventions of real media texts. I thought it was best to challenge the codes and conventions as little as possible because that can result in a unprofessional looking trailer.
Poster
My poster follows the codes and conventions because it uses one main image, like the resident evil poster or the toy story poster. like the valkyrie poster my task does not contain very much colour, and similarly to the valkyrie poster the main image is only part of the poster. The main image is also a close up which develops existing conventions because the images in other texts only show the upper half of the body like the expendables and black hawk down is basically the same as having half the body showing. My main image follows the convention of having only part of the face lit up but does challenge how dark the other half of the face is, as you see from the black hawk down poster part of his face is blackened, if you look at the expendables trailer there is a shadow on half of Stallone's face. The only poster that really gets close is Valkyrie, because the other half of his face is blackened but my posters image is blackened over more than half of the face

The title text of my main image follows the codes and conventions of posters because the text is very bold, like the sherlock Holmes poster, and the text is large like the Resident evil and UP posters
the affiliated film text at the bottom of the poster is seen in almost every poster so I decided that it was best to follow this particular convention
putting the actors names across the top of the page is an important convention, you see it in the expendables poster, the comedian trailer and the sherlock Holmes trailer. I chose to follow this convention to the absolute limit using this aspect of posters to the full.
The release date for my trailer follows the codes and conventions set by real life media texts, the colour is different to the rest of the affiliated text around it, like you see in most of my researched posters and as a result of this I have followed this convention.
here is a virtual representation of ways that my posters follow the codes and conventions set out by real life products:
Magazine cover
The main image follows the convention by not showing the people involved as a whole, if you look at all the other magazines most only show part of the body. Something I noticed about the main image of the picture is that it represents what kind of film the article is about, so when it came to choosing my main image I took this into account so I selected these pictures because they project the feeling of important successful people. The same way that filmstar magazine uses that picture to promote feeling, rather than space exploration
The masthead follows specific codes and conventions, it is the largest text on the page, it is in a fairly bold font, but not as bold as other film magazines on the market, in this sense it develops the codes and conventions set up by real media products. The masthead is placed at the top of the page which you see in every film magazine, so it would be foolish not to have used this convention. The colour of the masthead also follows the codes and conventions, it uses a bright colour to attract the reader.
The selling line of the magazine is placed underneath the masthead which you see in every other magazine, uses key words such as 'best' and 'greatest' these attributes are seen in lots of other magazine covers so I have chosen to follow them
my main cover line is the second biggest writing on the page which you see in almost all movie magazines. The main cover line also has a similar colour scheme to the main image, which is commonplace in real life media texts. The main cover line is placed over the main image. Similarly to other media texts such as the SFX magazine or Total Film magazine. I used the exclusive text on my main cover line because it can be seen in other real life texts.
The cover lines use the alternating colour idea because it can be seen in other media products, the cover lines are also headlined by key words which you see in every single magazine to attract readers to them, if my magazine was going to stand out it had to follow this code. The cover line above the title follows the convention of being one of the bigger selling points of the magazine, using a bigger bolder font than other cover lines like you see in Sci-Fi magazine, filmstar magazine and Total Film magazine. The cover lines also utilize the shapes as highlights, the use of colour in the shapes is also a feature of real media products that I wanted to follow, because I felt that it was n important part of it getting noticed in a store. The codes and conventions for the use of language on cover lines is also followed in my magazine cover, the use of the word 'exclusive' and 'new' as well as other phrases designed to attract you to the magazine are used in all magazines so following the codes and conventions was a good way of attracting readers.
The background of my magazine develops the convention of relating it to the main actor, where as most backgrounds are related to the main image like mine is, they are generally quite subdued behind the main image, made up of darker colours so they don't distract from the main image, whereas my background is much brighter.
